The Best Hue Coffee Classes: Workshops and Tours for Coffee Lovers

Hue coffee class, A clumsy but strangely enjoyable experience (Unique Activities in the Imperial City) I don’t know why, but in recent years, I’ve become addicted to the feeling of sitting amidst the aroma of freshly roasted coffee, hearing the beans crackle as if someone is whispering a story in my ear

Hue coffee class

So, when I heard there were several coffee-making workshops in Hue, I signed up immediately—perhaps a bit too hastily. Only after going did I realize, “Wow…” Hue is not just about ancient tombs and the poetic Perfume River; it also has a charming “small coffee village” waiting to be explored.

I wrote this article so that anyone visiting Hue for the first time, or the tenth, can add another interesting activity to their itinerary. It won’t be overly eloquent; I’m just writing from memory, a bit messy, with a slight typo here and there—hope you understand. What’s important is that I want to share the coffee experience in Hue that you absolutely shouldn’t miss.

Why you should try a Hue coffee class at least once?

I think it’s simple: travelling just to take photos and go home… is a bit of a waste. But a Hue coffee workshop is different. It allows you to touch, smell, listen to stories, and finally drink something you made yourself (which occasionally… fails, but oh well).

Besides, coffee in Hue has its own distinctive character. The clean, aromatic Arabica from A Luoi, and then Salt Coffee – a drink that sounds strange but is unforgettable once tasted, has become a Hue specialty everyone wants to try. If you love gentle “things to do in Hue” that don’t require much traveling, these Hue coffee classes tour are perfect.

Unique Hue coffê workshops – From city to mountain

I’ve grouped them for easy viewing. The content might be a bit disorganized, but they are all worth trying and belong to Hue’s Specialty Coffee ecosystem.

Hue traditional Coffee Class – Making the Unique Local Delicacy

  • Location suggestion: Central of Hue city
  • Duration: Usually 30 – 120 minutes.
  • Group size: Typically 2–10 people.

The Experience: This class was kind of… mildly chaotic fun. I fumbled while whipping the salted cream and spilled everywhere, but the teachers here were so kind, they helped me fix it and smiled gently: “It’s okay, just try again, no worries.” The best part was learning why Salt Coffee is so “addictive.” The clean aroma of the A Luoi Arabica, when paired with the lightly salted, creamy layer, is just perfect. Too bad… I drank it too fast. This is the simplest and most fun Hue coffee class you can take.

Hue Explorer coffee class

  • Location suggestion: Tran Quang Khai Street, Hue city.
  • Duration: Usually 30 – 120 minutes.
  • Group size: Typically 2–10 people.

The Experience: I used to think coffee roasting was some highly academic thing. But once inside the class, everything felt very accessible. The beans were hand-selected, then roasted, and watching them change color… the aroma was intoxicating. It felt like someone had opened the door for me to look into the “heart” of coffee. Oh, and I brought home a bag of coffee I roasted myself as a gift, which felt… quite proud.

A Luoi Arabica Farm Tour – One Day Trip, A Hundred Things to Learn (The Hue Coffee Class Tour)

  • Location suggestion:  A Luoi District, Thua Thien Hue)
  • Contact the tour/workshop organizer to confirm the schedule and cost.
  • Duration: 1 full day.
  • Group size: 2–10 people.

The Experience: This Hue coffee class tour is the most “earthy” one. I went into the farm, saw real coffee trees, and watched the red, ripe berries. Depending on the season, you can even pick them yourself. The sky was clear, the wind was cool, and looking down at the entire valley felt… an indescribable sense of peace. People on the farm were very gentle, telling coffee stories like life stories. I came home and suddenly my daily cup of coffee… had more meaning. Sounds a bit cheesy, but it’s true. This is the most profound coffee experience in Hue.

Which workshop should you choose?

  • Want quick – easy – charming? Choose the Salt Coffee Workshop
  • Want deep – detailed – understand the roasting craft? Go for the Roasting Experience
  • Want to escape the city – go to the mountains – breathe the fresh air? Take the day-long Hue coffee class tour to A Luoi.

In truth, each tour has its own vibe, so if you have time, you might try 2 – 3 of them. Hue is small, but the coffee culture here is not small at all.

A few other “the more you learn, the more fun” coffee class in Hue

  • 4-in-1 Coffee Workshop (Salt, Egg, Coconut, Iced Milk Coffee): You can inquire at places that host classes like Bites & Brews (you need to check the specific address). The atmosphere is cozy, and they tell stories about Vietnamese coffee. Many guests say this is a must-try coffee workshop in Hue.
  • Authentic Hue Salt Coffee Workshop: Often hosted at long-standing coffee shops (like Cam On Café or other pioneering units). The small class teaches the traditional recipe and tells the story of how Salt Coffee came to be — after hearing it, the coffee cup… felt more soulful.
  • Egg Coffee Experience: Hanoi-style egg coffee right in Hue. For those who love dessert-like coffee. The cup is creamy, smooth, and lightly sweet. You whip the egg yourself, and sometimes… it doesn’t whip evenly (it happened to me), but it’s still fun.
  • Coconut Coffee Class: Refreshing coconut coffee. Suitable for hot days. This class is light and easy-going, popular with international guests because it’s so easy to drink.

Hue coffee culture – Jusst a touch is unforgettable

Hue is gentle, yet the Hue coffee classes here are strangely memorable. Perhaps it’s because there I got to touch real coffee beans, hear real stories, meet real people, and manually prepare something I drink every day without deeply thinking about it.

If you are planning to visit Hue and want to try something different from the traditional itinerary, try at least one of these Hue coffee workshops. Who knows, you might just find a very personal corner of Hue—just like I did.
